Is Canvas the End of Flash?

An excellent post by Billups Design on the power Canvas brings to HTML5, with a great list of examples like 280 Slides, Bespin, and Mario Kart.

As both an Flash and standards-based developer, I think there’s a lot of merit to the question. Actionscript 3 is certainly more powerful than Canvas at the moment, but HTML & Javascript-based graphics generation will certainly be easier and better integrated.

What do you think?

  1. jarredbishop answered: I don’t think so. Flash will always be able to advance faster as it’s not limited by the browser.
  2. sethrubenstein answered: Perhaps Flash will finally wither away and die a slow and painful death. Long live the BROWSER and death to plugins!!!
  3. trey answered: I’m all for open standards. My main beef with Flash is that it’s proprietary.

  5. spencerjoe answered: Whoa whoa whoa….settle down there. Flash isn’t just for banner ads anymore. The Flash platform created its own genre of webdesign.
  6. deplorableword answered: No. It’s still too tech, Thunderhead needs to be an IDE aimed at designers if it’s going to get any traction.
  7. shabdar answered: I hope we’ll get rid of Flash!
